Necessary information about Armodafinil
Armod is concretely prescribed to refine condition of wakefulness in people with excessive sleepiness related with OSAHS, SWSD, narcolepsy. The exact method of Nuvigil’s action is unknown. This drug belongs to eugorics (stimulants that give continuous mental wakening).
The drug is taken orally. The recommended dose during OSAHS or narcolepsy is 150mg or 250mg in the morning. People with SWSD should take 150mg one hour before the work shift daily. The drug is prohibited to people that are allergic to armodafinil or modafinil. It is not advised to use this medication if the patient has problems with heart, liver or kidneys, high blood pressure, a history of mental illness, facts of drug or alcohol addiction.
Armodafinil can influence on patient’s reaction or thinking. Be careful while driving, avoid other hazardous performance before you know how this drug will affect your grade of alertness. The drug can cause severe skin reactions that can require hospitalization. Other negative reactions may include headache, fever, sore throat, severe blistering, vomiting, peeling, and red skin rash. There are some medications that can interact with Armodafinil. This can be herbal products, vitamins, prescribed and non-prescribed drugs.
What information should I talk over with my healthcare provider before using Armod?
Get in touch with your doctor at the first signal of the skin rash as such side effect is serious enough to require hospitalization. It can occur in people taking Armodafinil.
Warn your physician if you have or had any of the next states: facts of drug or alcohol addiction, a heart muscle, valve disorder such as mitral valve prolapsed, a history of mental illness, cirrhosis and other liver problem, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease.
Unfortunately, it is still unknown whether Armodafinil can harm to an unborn child. Notify your healthcare provider if you are pregnant before using this medication.
This preparation can reduce efficiency of some birth control. It is advised to use a non-hormone way of birth control (diaphragm, condom, spermicide) against pregnancy while using Armodafinil.
People younger 17years old should not take Armodafinil.
What are the potential negative effects of Armodafinil?
Contact emergency at once if you observe any of the following allergic reactions: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your face, tongue, lips, throat.
Stop using the drug and call emergency if you experience severe side effects: sore throat, fever, and vomiting with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin, skin rash, severe tingling, muscle weakness, mouth sores, upper stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice, clay-colored stools, confusion, aggression, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior, uneven heart beats.
Less serious negative effects include: feeling nervous or anxious, headache, diarrhea, insomnia, dry mouth, nausea, etc.
What can happen if I forget to take a dose of Nuvigil?
You should not take the missed dose if it is close to your bedtime. You can take the missed dose as soon as you remembered about it but do not take the preparation if you do not plan to stay awake for several hours.
What things should the patient avoid while taking Armodafinil?
Be careful while driving as Armod can impair your reaction and thinking. Try to avoid any dangerous activity till you know how this drug affects your level of wakefulness.
How should I take Armod?
The patient should take the drug exactly as prescribed. Do not exceed or lower the dosage as such actions can lead to the unexpected negative effects. Read the prescription label before using the drug and follow the directions precisely.
Nuvigil is generally taken each morning against daytime sleepiness or 1 hour before a work shift to treat excessive sleepiness during work time for up to 12 weeks.
You may also use a continuous positive airway pressure machine (CPAP) together with Armod against OSA. This device gently blows pressured air into your nose when you are sleeping. This method helps to keep your airway open in order to prevent obstruction.
Armodafinil and CPAP can give good results in treating your condition. But, unfortunately, Armodafinil will not cure OSA or its underlying causes. Notify your healthcare provider if you feel excessive sleepiness even while taking Armodafinil.
What happens in case of overdose?
Call the Poison Help or seek medical attention. Symptoms of overdose include chest pain, confusion, fast or slow heart rate, feeling excited or agitated.
What drugs can effect Armod?
Notify your doctor if you use any of the following medications:
– an antibiotic erythromycin (E.E.S., Ery-Tab, EryPed, Erythrocin), clarithromycin (Biaxin),
quinupristin/dalfopristin (Synercid), telithromycin (Ketek);
– propranolol (Inderal);
– cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral, Gengraf);
– rifampin (Rifadin, Rifamate, Rifater), rifabutin (Mycobutin), or rifapentine (Priftin);
– omeprazole (Prilosec);
– antifungal medication itraconazole (Sporanox), clotrimazole (Mycelex Troche), ketoconazole (Nizoral),
or voriconazole (Vfend);
– an antidepressant clomipramine, nefazodone (Anafranil);
– HIV medication etravirine (Intelence), efavirenz (Atripla, Sustiva), nevirapine (Viramune),
or ritonavir (Norvir);
– seizure medication felbamate (Felbatol), carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol),
oxcarbazepine (Trileptal), primidone (Mysoline), phenytoin (Dilantin) or a sedative such as
midazolam (Versed), diazepam (Valium), or triazolam (Halcion);
– a barbiturate secobarbital (Seconal), butabarbital (Butisol), pentobarbital (Nembutal),
or phenobarbital (Solfoton).
