Generic Medication guide:
What is the medication known as Cipro?
Cipro is the most widely known and popular brand of the antibacterial medication from the fluoroquinolones of II generation, Ciprofloxacin. This brand is owned by Bayer, a German chemical and pharmaceutical company.
The medication is one of the most effective formulations from its class. It is widely used internationally and is available under numerous other names since the exclusive rights for its production expired. It means that if you want to buy Cipro but do not pay any extra for the known name, you can get the same formulation made by the less known company who doesn’t advertise or promote its products. Such products are available if you look for generic Cipro though it’s not a trade name. For instance, we offer you to get the medication made by Ranbaxy, one of the largest and reputable generic-making companies from India. This company has registered for the product based on Ciprofloxacin the name Cifran.

When is Cipro prescribed?
The antibiotic is used for a wide range of bacterial illnesses as it is effective against multiple pathogens and also penetrates into all organs and fluids in the body ensuring that the antimicrobial effect reaches all areas that can be affected by the bacteria.
The cases when Cipro use is reasonable are:
- Bronchitis, pneumonia, and other bacterial lung diseases;
- Inflamed middle ear, rhinitis, bacterial inflammation in the frontal sinus, a sore throat caused by bacteria, and so on.
- Renal and urinary tract and reproductive organs infections such as cystitis, prostate inflammation, endometritis, gonorrhea, and others.
- Gastrointestinal, biliary duct infections, peritonitis, intra-abdominal abscesses, salmonellosis, typhoid, cholera, and others.
- Skin infections including infected ulcers, burns, and others.
- Infections of the bones and joints.
- Septic infections on the developed on the basis of immunodeficiency in the therapy with immunosuppressive medicines, in people with neutropenia or AIDS.
- Avoidance of infection development in operations.
Please note that the same diseases can be also treated with other medicines so you need to consult a medical specialist first because otherwise, you may end up taking the pills but not getting rid of the condition if it’s not susceptible to the drug. You can buy generic Cipro without Rx from our pharmacy but we want you to get the expected results from the therapy which is a complete cure so your therapy must be prescribed and followed by a specialist.
Cipro contraindicated use
- Cipro must not be utilized in high sensitivity or intolerance of the active agent, other quinolones medications, or auxiliary components of the tablets.
- Viral or fungal infections of the eyes are a contraindication for the medication use.
Besides, it must not be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women and kids aged less than 2 years or in the case with some formulations under 18.
The antibiotic must be carefully used by people with:
- Atherosclerosis of cerebral vessels;
- Cerebral circulation disorder;
- Seizure syndrome.
Cipro use during pregnancy
Do not buy Ciprofloxacin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as the antibiotic is contraindicated as it can harm the baby.
Dosing of Cipro
The dosing of the medication depends on the localization of the infections, type of the pathogen, and kidney function of the patient.
- The average dosages for adults are from 250 to 500 mg taken twice or thrice a day for five to fourteen days considering that it must be taken for three more days after the symptoms of the disease are gone. In uncomplicated infections, the dosage is 250 mg taken two times a day.
- In severe infection, the dosage can be elevated to 500-759 mg twice or thrice a day. The treatment course is from one week to two weeks. In chronic osteomyelitis, the therapy is continued for four to six weeks.
- Acute gonorrhea is treated with the single intake of 500-1000 mg. Simple gonorrhea can be treated with a single intake of 250-500 mg but if it is complicated with chlamydial or mycoplasmal infection, it must be treated with 750 mg taken every twelve hours for seven to ten days.
- Infections of the urinary tract are treated with 500-1000 mg divided into two intakes and taken for seven to ten days.
- The chancroid is treated with 100 mg split into two intakes for a couple of days.
- Chronic carriage of salmonella is treated with 1000 mg split into four intakes (by 250 mg per intake) per day for four weeks. At the doctor’s discretion, the dosage can be raised to 1500 mg split into three intakes (by 500 mg per intake).
- Pneumonia and osteomyelitis is treated with 750 mg taken twice a day. The treatment course of osteomyelitis can last for two months.
- Infections of the digestive tract induced by Staphylococcus aureus are treated by 750 mg taken every 12 hours for seven to twenty-eight days.
In severe infections, the dosage must be raised to 750 mg every 1to 2 hours.
Considering that an individual without a medical background cannot correctly identify the severity of the infection and other features based on which the dosage is chosen, it is highly advised to get the instructions how to use the pills from a doctor before you buy generic Ciprofloxacin.
Dosage adjustment for special groups of patients
People with kidney function impairment require the following dosage adjustments:
- CC from 31 to 60 ml per minute – the maximum daily dosage is 1000 mg.
- CC below 30 ml per minute - the maximum daily dosage is 500 mg.
- CC below 10 ml per minute - a half of the regular dosage is used twice a day or a whole daily dose is taken once a day.
- Senior age patients must be given dosages by 30% lower than the regular ones.
- Individuals on hemodialysis must receive 250 or 500 mg after a session. The pills must be taken after a meal with an adequate amount of water without crushing or chewing.
Overdose
An overdose is detected in tremor, vertigo, headache, general weakness, seizures, hallucinations occurrence, the extension of QT interval, digestive tract disorders, liver and kidney functions impairment, and others.
There is no a specific antidote. The measures to lower the formulation level in the blood are the intake of activated carbon, antacids that are based on calcium and magnesium. At the hospital, a symptomatic therapy and control over the vital functions are made.
Adverse effects
When you order Cipro and start the therapy, besides the positive effects you may also experience the negative ones such as:
- Blood composition disorders (seen in tests);
- Allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (malignant exudative erythema), incl. potentially life-threatening, Lyell's syndrome.

Cipro use precautions
- For the therapy of severe infections, staphylococcal and anaerobic bacteria-induced infections, the formulation must be utilized along with adequate antibacterial agents.
- The formulation must not be used for Streptococcus pneumoniae treatment due to its limited effectiveness against this pathogen.
- Sexually transmitted infections induced by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, resistant to fluoroquinolones, can be treated with the medication only in the proved sensitivity of the pathogen.
- The medication can extend the QT interval so it is prohibited to take it with any medicines that have the same effect and in senior patients, and in people with heart diseases.
- If during or after the therapy with Cipro severe and continuous diarrhea develops, tests for pseudomembranous colitis must be made and in case they are positive, the treatment must be immediately stopped and treatment of colitis made.
Cipro interactions
When you order generic Cipro, you should know that it can negatively interact with other medications:
- It must be carefully used with any medicines that can elongate the QT interval as it also can potentially elongate it. Such medications are antipsychotics, antiarrhythmic medicines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.
- The simultaneous use of the medication with antacids and iron-containing drugs lowers the absorption of Cipro. The interval between these medicines intakes must be one- two hours (Cipro taken before them) or four hours (Cipro taken after these drugs).
- Ciprofloxacin can elevate the serum level and extend the half-life of Theophylline.
- In the concurrent use of the antibiotic with cyclosporine, a possible elevation of creatinine in the blood serum and its toxic effect intensification are possible.
- The antibiotic can enhance the effects of anticoagulants and induce bleedings so they must be cautiously combined.
- The concurrent use with NSAIDs renders the stimulating effect on the central nervous system and induces convulsive readiness.
- The use of the medication with citrate and sodium bicarbonate, and inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase enhances the risk of crystalluria (an accumulation of excessive salt in the body).
