Generic Medication guide:
What is the product marketed under the name Minomycin? When is it used?
Minomycin is a Pfizer’s brand registered and promoted for the marketing of the antibacterial substance with an unpatented name Minocycline. The formula for this product is known for a long time already which makes it possible for the same product to be produced by different drug-making companies. If you need to buy Minomycin but do not want to overpay for the known brand, you can look for generic Minomycin instead but make sure to check the original package for the name of the active substance which must be Minocycline.
Minomycin is a semi-synthetic antibacterial formulation from tetracyclines. It renders a bacteriostatic effect, i.e. temporary suppression of the pathogens to reproduce in the organism of the carrier. The effect is rendered against the wide range of pathogens through the suppression of the protein synthesis in the microorganism ribosome.
The indications for the antibiotic use are:
- Skin infections including acne
- Typhoid fever, Q fever, tick fever, and others.
- Infections of the airways
- Conjunctivitis
- Genitourinary tract infections
- Chancroid
- Sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis and gonorrhea
- Non-venereal syphilis
- Anthrax
- Ulcerative tonsillitis and many others.
Before you buy generic Minomycin for the treatment of any of these conditions you must be informed that some of them can be very dangerous and even life-threatening if not treated properly and timely. The effective treatment isn’t possible without a precise diagnosis, and picking of the formulation based on the individual factors as well as the type of the pathogen. The same diseases can and are treated with different formulations. For a proper therapy, it is necessary to get a precise diagnosis from a specialist of the right profile, do sensitivity tests that identify whether the infection is induced by the pathogen that can be treated by the antibiotic and then the directions from your healthcare provider about how to use it and for how long.

When is Minomycin prohibited to be used?
Even if the tests show that it is the best formulation to be used in your case it can be still unsuitable if you suffer from:
- Increased sensitivity to the medication or tetracyclines in general.
- Porphyria;
- Severe liver or kidney failure;
- Leukopenia;
- Systemic lupus;
- Lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose poor absorption.
The formulation also must not be used when expecting a baby and breastfeeding, for the kids aged less than eight years, and along with Isotretinoin.
The use of Minomycin is possible but under a doctor’s supervision and with caution in liver or kidney dysfunction, during the use of products that render a toxic effect on the liver.
Minomycin dosing
Unless your physician prescribes you another dosing regimen, you can follow the instructions provided here as they are taken from the official instruction that accompanies the pills when you buy Minocycline in the original packaging.
The capsules are taken by mouth after a meal. They should be swallowed with an adequate amount of water or milk to wash them down to diminish the irritating effect on the esophagus.
The first dose is 200 mg. Subsequently, 100 mg are taken every twelve hours.
The highest daily dosage must not be higher than 400 mg.
- Infections of the genitourinary tract and anus provoked by chlamydia and ureaplasma are treated with the intake of 100 mg every twelve hours for seven to ten days with cephalosporin antibiotics.
- Primary syphilis in individuals with allergy to penicillins is treated with 100 mg taken two times a day for ten to fifteen days.
- Gonorrhea is treated with 100 mg taken two times a way for four to five days or with the single intake (one day) of 300 mg.
- Complicated gonococcal infections require the intake of 200 mg as the first dosage and supporting dose of 100 mg taken every twelve hours for at least four days.
- Uncomplicated gonococcal infection is treated with 100 mg taken every twelve hours for at least five days.
- Acne is treated with 50 mg a day during six to twelve weeks.
- For kids, the dosages are chosen individually based on the body weight. The first dose is 4 mg per kg of the body weight with the subsequent use of 2 mg per kg every twelve hours.
Overdose of Minomycin
The regular manifestations of an overdose are loss of coordination and severe nausea. If they occur, the use of the capsules must be canceled and treatment aimed at the elimination of symptoms initiated.
Minomycin adverse effects
The range of negative events is the same as of other tetracyclines so if you have ever experienced the negative effects from any tetracyclines, probably you will develop the same when you buy generic Minocycline and start using it. If you have never used tetracyclines, you can still develop the following adverse effects especially if it turns out that you are allergic to this class of formulations or are predisposed to certain conditions.
- Loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, colitis, pancreatitis, oral cavity inflammation, cholestasis, liver failure, hepatitis.
- Candidiasis of the vagina, interstitial nephritis, elevation of urea in the blood plasma.
- Hair loss, erythema, nail discoloration, pruritus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, and others.
- Wheezing, bronchospasm, pneumonia.
- Arthritis, joint swelling, discoloration of bone tissue, muscle pain.
- Urticaria, allergic swelling anaphylactic reactions, pericarditis, a flare-up of lupus, lung infiltration.
- Agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, eosinophilia, and others.
- Seizures, dizziness, loss of sensitivity in the limbs, lifted intracranial pressure, and so on.
- Noise in the ears, hearing impairment.
- Changed color of the oral cavity and teeth enamel, fever.
Minocycline interactions
- The formulations from the tetracyclines class increase the coagulation time of blood so if a patient uses anticoagulants along with Minocycline, their dosages must be revised.
- Tetracyclines and penicillins interfere with the each other’s effect so they must not be used at the same time.
- Antacids or iron-containing formulations substantially influence the absorption of the antibiotic so their use must not be combined or they should be taken with sufficient time intervals (2 hours or more).
- It is contraindicated to take the antibiotic with methoxyflurane as it can cause terminal kidney failure.
- Oral contraceptives effect can be lowered by Minocycline so during the therapy other birth control methods must be also used.
- The use of Isotretinoin at the time of the therapy with the antibiotic is possible but the medicines must be taken with sufficient time intervals, for instance, an hour or two apart. This is advised to avoid intracranial pressure elevation that is induced by both drugs.
- The risk of ergot poisoning is elevated in the use of ergot alkaloids with the antibiotic.
Minomycin precautions
Before you order Minomycin you should know that its use can elevate the level of urea in the blood. In individuals with healthy kidneys this does not require adjustments or cancelation of the therapy but in people with severe kidney failure, it can cause azotemia, hyperphosphataemia, and acidosis. In this case, it is needed to monitor urea and creatinine levels in the blood and lower the daily intake of the product until 200 mg or less.
During the use of the formulation and up to a month after the end of the course, the development of colitis is possible. In mild diarrhea, it is sufficient to discontinue the therapy but in severe cases, the therapy of colitis must be initiated under a doctor’s supervision. In diarrhea occurrence, it is prohibited to take drugs that slow down the intestinal peristalsis.
It is encouraged to do tests of the blood, kidneys, and liver in a long-duration therapy.
The medication can induce sensitivity to direct sun rays so it is advised to avoid direct sun exposure during the therapy. In case of erythema development, the use of the medication must be discontinued.
Since the formulation can cause dizziness, it is advised to render caution when driving or operating any machinery. During the first days of the therapy when it’s not clear whether the capsule will provide the negative effects, it is advised to refrain from driving or operating any machinery that can endanger someone’s life.
