Generic Medication guide:
What is Finpecia and when is it used?
Finpecia is a brand. It is owned by a certain company who markets under this name the medicinal substance known internationally as Finasteride.
This substance is used for several conditions – pattern hair loss in men and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostate).
If you wish to buy Finasteride cheaper than at the usual drugstores, you should get a generic version from our med store. Generic version is the same formulation manufactured and sold by other company and therefore having a different trade name.

The formulation is an inhibitor of testosterone 5-alpha-reductase (second type), an enzyme due to which testosterone is converted into dihydrotestosterone, which is an androgen of greater activity. This androgen is responsible for the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate and pattern baldness in men.
After the intake, Finasteride is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the digestive tract. The absorption of the drug from the digestive tract is completed 6-8 hours after administration. After a single oral administration, the maximum plasma concentration is reached after 1-2 hours. Eating does not affect the absorption or concentration in the blood plasma. Bioavailability is approximately 80%.
Binding with plasma proteins is 93%. The systemic clearance is approximately 165 ml/min, the distribution volume is 76 liters. Finasteride crosses the blood-brain barrier in patients receiving therapy for 7-10 days, but its content in the cerebrospinal fluid does not reach significant concentrations. When taking Finasteride at a dose of 5 mg per day, its penetration into the seminal fluid was also noted. Moreover, the concentration of Finasteride in the seminal fluid of adult men was 50-100 times lower than its concentration in blood plasma.
Finasteride is metabolized in the liver by oxidative biotransformation with the formation of 5 metabolites, of which 2 are active (their effectiveness is less than of Finasteride).
When taking multiple doses of Finasteride for a long time, accumulation of the drug in small quantities is possible.
In pattern alopecia otherwise called androgenic alopecia, the formulation stops the hair loss and even promotes the growth of hair on the bald patches due to the suppression of the hormone that promotes the hair loss.
Indications for Finpecia use
You can buy generic Finpecia and use it for androgenetic alopecia. Approximately 95% of cases of alopecia in men are caused precisely by hormonal imbalance. Excess dihydrotestosterone damages the condition of the follicles, stopping hair growth and leading to their loss.
Get the medication if your hair loss matches the following picture:
- You lose hair mainly in the frontal and crown parts of the head.
- Men in your family are also balding or bald.
The symptoms of androgenic alopecia or patch baldness are very easily noticed. If you lose hair in general without noticing clearly defined bald patches, you shouldn’t get the medication but rather go to a doctor and get checked for other health disorders that can cause it such as thyroid problems, vitamins deficiency, stress, and so on.
Contraindications for Finpecia use
Do not buy Finasteride in:
- Hypersensitivity to the medication’s component;
- Age under 18 years.
The medication is also prohibited in pregnancy and in general in women of childbearing age.
Application restrictions (use is possible if your physician approves):
- A large volume of residual urine and/or a significantly reduced rate of urination;
- Liver failure;
- Old age.
How is Finpecia used?
The standard dosage of Finpecia and the generic versions of the medication is 1 mg a day. It should be taken approximately at the same time daily.
The medication must be taken daily for at least six to eight months to see noticeable effect. Once you stop using the pills, hair loss resumes but not right away. Within several months you can still enjoy the additive effect of the medication. Thus, you can use it for a year or similar period of time and stop using the pills for a short period of time (several months) once you are fully satisfied with the results. Then, you should resume using the pills once you see that you start losing hair again.
If you don’t suffer from any adverse effects from the medication use, you shouldn’t be worried about the long-term use of the pills. But if you have any doubts, make sure to discuss the medication use with your healthcare provider before you buy generic Finasteride.
What adverse effects can Finasteride cause?
The usual adverse effects that can develop due to the medication use are erectile dysfunction and low sex drive. These effects usually occur at the beginning of treatment and mostly temporary with prolonged therapy.

- Allergic reactions; - Irregular heartbeat;
- Elevated liver enzymes.
- Rarely: violation of ejaculation, enlargement and tenderness of the mammary glands, pain in the testicles.
Interactions of Finpecia
During the tests no significant interaction with other drugs has not been identified.
Finasteride is metabolized mainly with the participation of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme of the cytochrome P450 system, without significantly affecting the function of this system. However, inhibitors or inducers of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme can affect the plasma levels of Finasteride so it is better to consult a healthcare specialist before you order generic Finpecia and start using it if you already take any other medications.
Precautions
- The medication is used also for benign prostatic hyperplasia but in different dosages and only if non-cancerous nature of the disease is proven. If you want to buy generic Finasteride for prostate enlargement, you should use the dosage of 5 mg per pill and consult a doctor first.
- The low dosage of Finasteride used for hair loss is less likely to cause any adverse effects than the dosages used for prostate enlargement. But if you have any adverse effects and especially allergy, you should consult a healthcare specialist.
- Hair loss resumes once the use of the medication is discontinued. To maintain sustainable results you need to take the medication continuously with short breaks for 1-2 months.
