Pharmacological properties

Diclofenac belongs to the group of NSAIDs. It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, as well as moderate antipyretic activity. The mechanism of action is due to inhibition of mediators of inflammation synthesis. By inhibiting the activity of the COX-1 enzyme, it reduces platelet aggregation. The formulation is effective in the therapy of rheumatoid conditions and inflammation due to injury. It diminishes pain, liquidates inflammation and edema with rheumatic or injury-induced inflammation, and betters the function of the muscular system. In the course of therapy of rheumatoid arthritis, the medication intensively penetrates the joint cavity, reduces pain at rest and during movement, helps to elevate the range of movements in the affected joints, and reduces morning rigidity and puffiness of the joints. A stable effect is observed within one to two weeks of treatment.

When applied to the skin, it is partially absorbed (3.3% of the locally used dose) and detected in blood plasma. The formulation penetrates well into tissues and joints fluid, where its level is higher than in the blood plasma. T1⁄2 from blood plasma is 1–2 hours, from synovial fluid - 3–6 hours.

Indications for Diclofenac gel use

You can buy generic Jonac gel for symptomatic treatment of pain, inflammation, and swelling in:

- Soft tissue damage: trauma to tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints (for example, due to dislocation); sports injuries;

- Localized forms of soft tissue rheumatism: tendonitis, localized forms of degenerative rheumatism (osteoarthritis of the peripheral joints and spine), and others.

The drug is used externally in adults and kids over the age of 12 years. The dosage of the gel depends on the size of the affected area. Usually, 2–4 g of gel (a size of pea or walnut) is applied to the skin at the area in pain 3-4 times a day and is gently rubbed in. After you applied the formulation, wash your hands, except when it is the hands that are to be treated.

The length of course of use depends on the indications and effect of the therapy. After two weeks of continuous use, the therapy effectiveness and its continuation reasonability should be reviewed. The drug should not be used for more than 14 days in a row with soft tissue lesions or rheumatic diseases of soft tissue or for more than 21 days - in case of pain caused by arthritis unless the doctor has prescribed another.

If the medication is not used as appointed by a doctor, it is necessary to consult a physician if, after a week of use, the patient's condition has not bettered or even aggravated.

Elderly individuals, individuals with worsened liver and kidney function do not require dose adjustment.

Contraindications for Diclofenac gel use
