Generic Medication guide:
What is Evista and when is it used?
Evista is one of the brands registered to sell the medicinal substance Raloxifene. This substance is a selective estrogen receptor modulator. It normalizes bone resorption processes in the postmenopausal period, raises bone mass, and reduces calcium loss through the urinary system. Besides, the medication lowers total cholesterol, “bad” cholesterol, serum fibrinogen and increases the level of “good” cholesterol.
If your doctor tells you to buy Evista, you can instead buy a generic version of the drug based also on Raloxifene which provides the same effect.
The indications for Evista use are:
- Therapy and prophylaxis of osteoporosis (bone weakening) in postmenopausal women.
- To lower the breast tumors risk in postmenopausal women. How is Raloxifene used? The recommended dose is one tablet of for oral administration daily. It can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of food intake.
When is the use of Evista contraindicated?
You should not buy generic Evista and use it in:
- Childbearing age;
- Pregnancy and lactation;
- Hypersensitivity (allergy) to the formulation;
- Thromboembolism,
- Pulmonary embolism and retinal vein thrombosis,
- Deep vein thrombosis,
- Liver failure,
- Prolonged immobilization.
If you have any other chronic or acute conditions, consult your doctor first before you buy Raloxifene and start using it.
What adverse effects can Raloxifene provoke?
The most common adverse reaction observed throughout the use of the medication is flushing (reddening of the face). Yet it is moderate and transient. Other adverse effects that occurred were also mild and didn’t require the discontinuation of the therapy.

Special recommendations for Evista use
- If you or your family has a history of venous thromboembolism, your healthcare provider should carefully assess the risks and benefits before you buy generic Raloxifene and start using it. Since the medication can induce this disease, it is necessary to discontinue Raloxifene use in case of a disease or in conditions that lead to a long period of immobilization (bed rest).
- The medication should be cautiously used in women with impaired liver function. Impaired liver function as it is metabolized in the liver and the level of the drug in the body can substantially increase in the unhealthy liver.
- Application in the premenopausal period. Indications for Raloxifene use in the premenopausal period are absent.
- Combined therapy with systemic hormone therapy. Safety information with the simultaneous use of Evista and systemic hormonal therapy is limited, so the simultaneous is not advised.
- Endometrium. The medication does not stimulate endometrial proliferation. Thus, any uterine/genital bleeding in the time of the course requires immediate doctoral consultation and respective examination.
- Estrogen-induced Hypertriglyceridemia. In a history of oral estrogen-induced hypertriglyceridemia, taking raloxifene may increase plasma triglycerides.
- Use during pregnancy and lactation. Women with preserved reproductive function should not take the medication. It may cause fetal damage when used by pregnant women. If the medication is accidentally used by pregnant woman, she should be informed of the probable danger.
- Women during lactation should not take raloxifene. There is no information about whether raloxifene passes into breast milk.
Influence on the ability to drive a car and work with mechanisms
Evista has no known effects on the ability to drive and operate machinery.

- Cholestyramine reduces the bioavailability and blocks the intestinal-hepatic circulation.
