- The medication must be cautiously used with blood tension-lowering medications.
- The level of the medication in the blood plasma can be increased if it is used along with erythromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, and octreotide.
- The effects of the medication can be lowered by the antagonists of dopamine (butyrophenones, phenothiazines), Metoclopramide and Domperidone.
- Sympathomimetics, e.g. phenylpropanolamine, isomeptene, increase the risk of toxicity.
- The medication use must not be combined with other ergot alkaloids.
- Caution is advised in the use of the medication with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. azole fungicides, HIV medications).
Special recommendations for Parlodel use
- If you want to order generic Parlodel for benign breast tumors or premenstrual syndrome, keep in mind that it is not the first-line medication and not a preferable drug.
- The formulation is not advised to women with a history of raised blood tension or mental disorders.
- If the drug is used after labor, blood tension should be closely monitored at least for the first days since the medication can contribute to its increase. Particular care is needed for patients who use or have recently used) medicines that can change blood pressure.
- There are several cases of severe adverse events in recently giving birth women who used the medication to suppress lactation. These events are heart attack, stroke, or mental disorders. There is no proof that these negative effects are directly related to the medication use but in any risks, caution is needed.
- In case of hypertension, severe and persistent headache with visual impairment or any signs of toxicity to the central nervous system, treatment should be stopped immediately.
- Patients may develop hyperprolactinemia of idiopathic or medicinal origin, or due to diseases of the hypothalamus or pituitary gland.
- Women of reproductive age suffering from pathology unrelated to hyperprolactinemia should use the minimum effective dosages. This warning is necessary to avoid inhibition of prolactin to levels below normal, followed by impaired corpus luteum function. During treatment, such patients should use a reliable non-hormonal method of birth control, since it is known that oral contraceptives increase the level of prolactin in the blood serum.
- Women who need to use Parlodel for long periods need a gynecological examination (including cytological examination). Women who are in the period of menopause are recommended to undergo an examination once every 6 months, and women of reproductive age are recommended to be examined once a year.
- Individuals with a history of stomach ulcer should be carefully monitored throughout the formulation use.
- In patients using bromocriptine, especially for a long period and in high doses, pleural and pulmonary fibrosis, and constrictive pericarditis were occasionally observed.
- Several patients who have used Bromocriptine, especially over an extended period and at high doses, have experienced cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis. In the occurrence of symptoms, for example, back pain, puffiness of the lower extremities, impaired renal function), a patient should inform the doctor. -In case of diagnosis or suspicion of the presence of fibrotic changes in the retroperitoneal space, treatment the use of the formulation should be ceased.
- The medication use can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and other effects so it is advised to refrain from driving vehicles and operating machinery at least during the first days of the medication use. Besides, if these symptoms occur and they are intense, you should inform your doctor and maybe lower the dosage temporarily.
